If you can donate your time on a regular basis (once a week, twice a month, etc.) and have some gardening experience, you can volunteer to assist the gardeners doing light tasks such as weeding, raking, or nursery work.

For more information or to volunteer to assist the gardeners, contact Joe Dahl, the garden supervisor, at or (510) 544-3169.

Volunteers are encouraged to enroll in Garden Volunteer Training to deepen their understanding of the garden. The training meets once a week for three hours over 10 weeks. You’ll learn about basic botany, plant identification, and pollination, as well as the garden’s history and many of its important plants. The fee for Garden Volunteer Training is $150, which includes instruction and a one-year membership in the Friends of the Regional Parks Botanic Garden. Scholarships are available based on need.

To learn more about Garden Volunteer Training–which takes place in January through March 2016–or to register, see the 2016 Garden Volunteer Training flyer.
