Spring 2024 Classes with Dr. Glenn Keator

Join us for two series of in-person classes led by Glenn Keator, one focusing on the diverse plant habitats of the Bay Area and the other focusing on the Bay Area’s diverse plant families. These series are tailored for plant enthusiasts who wish to explore the beauty and botanical diversity our region offers.

Series 1. Bay Area Plant Habitats

Explore the diverse plant habitats of the Bay Area through engaging PowerPoint presentations. Discover what makes our area uniquely captivating for plant lovers. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. at the Botanic Garden Visitor Center and last approximately 2 hours. Fee: $75 per session, maximum of 50 people per session.

April 21: Mitchell Canyon, Mt. Diablo.
May 5: The Coastal Trail, Marin Headlands.
May 19: South Fork Road, Mt. Diablo.
June 2: Abbott’s Lagoon, Pt. Reyes National Seashore.

Series 2. Native Plant Families of California

Gain familiarity with California’s most prominent, beautiful, and diverse plant families. Each session combines a PowerPoint presentation with strolls in the Botanic Garden to observe species of selected families closely. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. at the Botanic Garden Visitor Center and last approximately 2.5 hours. Fee: $80 per session, maximum of 15 people per session.

Depending on what species will look best on specific dates, we are likely to study Liliaceae, the lily family; Berberidaceae, the barberry family; Grossulariaceae, the gooseberry family; Themidaceae, the brodiaea family; Boraginaceae, the borage family; Iridaceae, the iris family; and Lamiaceae, the mint family.

The five classes will take place on April 14, April 28, May 12, May 26, and June 9.
